Brian Abruzzi

Founder and Director

Brian Abruzzi has lived in Las Cruces since 2006. Raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, he moved to Las Cruces when he was 26 and often refers to the move as the best decision he ever made in his life. Living in the desert southwest helped him to rediscover and solidify his love of the outdoors. An auto technician by trade for the past 25 years, Brian first founded SNMTB as a grass roots race team. Quickly racing turned to instruction and with the birth of his son and seeing the need to break the barrier of entry for others the focus turn to youth. Brian is steadfast in the pursuit of his aspersion and vision to create a comprehensive, vibrant institute for kids from all walks of life to learn the joys of mountain biking and what the outdoors can bring to people. His favorite pastime is creating the love of exploration and curiosity with his son Reith and partner Sabdy through bike rides, hikes, travel and camping throughout the southwest.

Becky Drummer

Board President

Becky Drummer loves playing outside. She was raised in the woods of Mckenzie Bridge, Oregon and grew up camping, hiking, biking, swimming, and building forts with her siblings as much as possible. Becky moved to Las Cruces in 2001 after being offered a bilingual teaching position at East Picacho Elementary. She has been a bilingual teacher for 25 years and loves working with children and adults of all ages. Becky started coaching when she was 16 years old after breaking her leg in a skiing accident. She was not able to play soccer, so she coached a team of 12-year-old girls instead. This is when she realized that her passion was teaching and coaching. Being involved in the creation and evolution of SNMTB has been such an exciting journey for Becky. She has grown as a leader in this process and genuinely appreciates the hard work and dedication of the members who founded this incredible program. Mountain biking for Becky is a life saver, a release of tension, a competitive avenue, and another wonderful opportunity to share her love for the outdoors.

Felipe Scobell

Director of Communications

As an ‘almost’ lifelong resident of Southern New Mexico, Felipe Scobell thoroughly enjoys riding and exploring the Land of Enchantment and beyond.   Originally from El Paso, Felipe moved to New Mexico to attend NMSU where he was exposed to the outdoor life.  After graduation and moving abroad, his love of bicycle riding began to grow.   Missing home, Felipe returned to the high desert where he became involved in the local bicycle community.

An accidental encounter with Brian Abruzzi, a friendship revolving around mountain bikes grew, leading to the creation of a racing team.  After many competitions, awards and memories, the team switched focus towards a non-profit organization to expose the underserved community of youth mountain biking in Southern New Mexico.

Felipe is committed to the promotion, education, and advancement of Youth Mountain Biking in Southern New Mexico.
